JUST MATTERS - NEW WINESKINS

Posted On February 05, 2012

Just Faith will sponsor an 8 week program, New Wineskins. New Wineskins is one of many Just Matters modules, focusing on our desire to "do more" with our lives, to "be more" -to be known and challenged at deeper levels or in different ways than we experience in our parish or family; to pray together and reflect on our lives in light of Scripture and our Catholic tradition; to struggle and rejoice at life's ups and downs with other committed Christians. Just Matters is a new and expanding series of formation materials from JustFaith Ministries. The emphasis is on social ministry, with special emphasis on Catholic social teaching, culminating in a call to engaged action. New Wineskins' participants will get to discern if they feel called to commit to our Just Faith mission based community. Through readings and Scripture reflection, dialogue, videos, guest speakers, as well as community socializing, this module offers both the inspiration and the process for responding to that deep longing to be more and to do more in our lives. The course will be held every Monday evening from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. in the Monsignor Gauthreaux Center Library. The class will begin on Monday, March 5, and will continue through Monday, April 23. The program will be facilitated by Marilyn Degrasse, with support from Lynne and Deacon Oscar Foster. If interested in joining, please contact the church office.

WHAT IS JUST FAITH?

Posted On Friday, October 01, 2010

Just Faith offers an opportunity for parishioners to experience a spiritual journey into compassion. Most of us long to be a generous and compassionate people. However, the opportunities to explore our tradition's Catholic social teachings in a deliberate and engaging way have largely not been available. JustFaith, now offered in hundreds of parishes across the country, provides a lively and challenging format to read, view, discuss, pray, experience and be formed by the justice tradition, which changes lives, inspires faithful witness, and transforms the world through love and service. Our Catholic faith and biblical tradition extend an extraordinary invitation to each of us and to our faith communities to become agents of God's compassion and healing in a wounded world. The good News of Christ is both a comfort and a promise for the poor to be linked with God's vision of justice and reconciliation. Participants are also afforded the privilege of becoming a community with other participants and sharing a journey of faith and compassion that is both life-giving and challenging.

MISSION STATEMENT

Posted On Friday, October 01, 2010

It is the mission of St. Maria Goretti Just Faith Ministry to help individuals experience conversion, integrating their personal spirituality with social commitment. We are empowered to develop a passion and thirst for justice and to express this passion in concrete acts of social ministry in our parish and in the community at large. Our goal is to gain a better understanding of the Church's social mission from the life of Christ and the Scriptures, the Church's historical witness, and Catholic social teaching. We aim to implement that teaching by being compassionate to a broken world----in particular, the hungry, the homeless, the helpless.
