Formed in 1882 in the basement of St. Mary's Church in New Haven, Ct., by
Father Michael J. McGivney
World's largest Catholic Men's Fraternal Organization with 1.7 million members
in over 14,000 councils
Our programs encompass service to our Church and Clergy, family, community,
youth, and council
In 1954, led the effort to officially include the words "under God" in the Pledge
of Allegiance to the American Flag
Has one of the best life insurance programs available only to Knights and their
families
Over the years has helped to build up Catholic communities, renovate the Vatican,
infused monies into our own Archdiocese after the destruction of Katrina, and
brought the Pope to the world
There are four degrees that are exemplified by the ideals of our Order: Charity,
Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism
The Patriotic Arm of our Order is what most people know us by when they see
the cape, Chapeau, and sword worn by a Color Corps member in the 4th Degree
There are over 300 councils currently in Louisiana
Our council was originally formed on October 1, 1986, at St. Simon Peter
In the 2004-2005 fraternal year, Council #9415 was recognized at the State
Convention as the 4th best Council in the state of Louisiana
Our squires circle #4857 was recognized as the top Squires Circle during 2004-
2005 fraternal year
Our council along with Council #12115 at St. Leo the Great was instrumental
in starting a 4th Degree Assembly #2921 here at St. Maria Goretti in July 2005
Due to Katrina, we were displaced when St. Simon Peter didn't re-open, but
Mgsr. Gauthreaux allowed us to continue our work here at St. Maria Goretti
right alongside our 4th Degree Assembly
Shortly afterward, we asked Mgsr. about renaming the Council St. Maria
Goretti, and with his permission and our petition to our Supreme Council, the
name is officially St. Maria Goretti Council #9415
We are a small council yet strong and believe greatly in family involvement and
look forward to bringing our council back to where we were before Katrina
St. Maria Goretti Council #9415 currently meets every 2nd Tuesday of the month
in rooms 3 & 4 in the Mgsr. Gauthreaux Center
