About The Wellness Ministry

The purpose of the Wellness Ministry is to provide information and services to help parishioners and members of the New Orleans community live a healthy, balanced life.

The Wellness Ministry offers the First Place 4 Total Wellness Program, a bible-based program designed to help participants learn to live a balanced life by placing Christ first in their lives. Participants learn the basics of establishing healthy eating and exercise habits, developing one's spiritual life, and techniques for maintaining one's emotional health. There is no charge for participating in this twelve week program; however, participants must purchase a member's kit and a bible study book in order to participate. Additional information about this bible based health program can be obtained at www.firstplace4health.com.  Additionally information on places to obtain the materials at a reduced price is provided at orientation.

The Wellness Ministry also currently offers exercise classes four days a week.  See the exercise page of this website for the details of each class.

The Wellness Ministry sponsored health fairs in September of 2008 and 2009. Thanks to the assistance of the various organizations in the church and various health care agencies in the City both health fair were successful.  See the Health Fair section of this website for pictures and a report ofn the 2009 health fair.

In 2009 Louisiana Health Review presented two sessions of its tw day diabetes education program, Every Diabetic Counts at our Church.  It is anticipated that additional sessions will be offered in 2010.

In 2009 and continuing in 2010 the Pontchartrain Chapter of the Links is presenting an eight session program, Heartlinks, to educate and empower women over the age of 40 of the serious lifestyle changes that need to be made to stem the rise of deaths from heart attacks in women.  Sessions are held every second Wednesday of the month.

The Wellness Ministry welcomes suggestions for improving the services and programs being offered. We also invite persons interested in becoming members of the Wellness Committee to contact us by calling the church office or by sending an e-mail to ldavis@smgnola.com.
