Our second annual Health Fair was held on Sunday, September 20th.
This year's health fair gave participants an opportunity to obtain numerous health screenings. Michelle Donaldson-Bailey, a podiatrist with the LSU podiatry clinic was on hand to examine feet and provide information on foot care. Dr. Jarret Johnson and her staff from Primary Eye Care provided eye screenings. The students from Xavier University's School of Communications, supervised by Dr. Joe Metzler, provided hearing screenings. Making Impressions, a student group from LSU Dental School provided dental information, and the Tulane Medical Students from the Don't Weight to lose program provided body fat analysis, bone density screening, water hydration analysis and other information regarding body composition, as well as helpful hints to improve one's overall health. Our fitness instructors, Toya, Flip and Edna provided fitness demonstrations and shared tips for incorporating exercise into daily activities. Touro Hospital and Southern Quality Health Care provided cholesterol, blood glucose and blood pressure screenings. Downman Urgent Care, PACE, and New Orleans Health Corporation provided information about the services offered by their organizations. Our First Place 4 Health leaders were on hand to provide information on our bible based weight management and healthy living program. Our very own Chef Glen Gilyot Sr. prepared tasty chicken filled lettuce wraps, garnering praise and requests for the recipe. Our CYO Sonshine Youth group provided fun activities for the children and assisted with set up and clean up. They also helped with registration.
On Saturday, January 16, 2010, Congressman Cao hosted another health fair at our church. Numerous health screenings were provided. Additionally the City of New Orleans provided free immunizations to adults and children. Participants in Congressman Cao's health fair also included Tulane Medical Center, Daughters of Charity, audiologists from LSU, Representatives from the Veterans Administration, the Census Bureau, and the Department of Insurance, St. Thomas Clinic and others.
